    A message from Parker McQuaid

My dad is a healthcare administrator and we have talked a lot about the front line healthcare workers risking their lives and working around the clock to aid patients affected by COVID-19. There are so many great efforts in place to help keep front line workers fed, healthy, etc. I wanted to find a way to contribute. This eventually led me to the creation of the Ribbons of Appreciation Project, which asks individuals to tie a red ribbon outside their home to celebrate and recognize all the healthcare workers who are helping their communities during the crisis. Doctors and nurses, of course, but pharmacists, cafeteria workers, radiology technicians, housekeeping teams, admissions, and medical records staff, healthcare administrators like my dad--EVERYONE! There are more than one million healthcare workers in Pennsylvania alone, and the commitment many of them make throughout their life, not just during times like this, make them true healthcare heroes.

So far, more than 400 ribbons have been distributed, and many other individuals have used their own ribbons to participate. The lawn signs will help spread the word to the community, not only what the ribbon means, but encouraging them to participate and share photos on social media. Having some at health care organizations will let the healthcare workers know directly what the ribbons mean, so when they see them, they will know they are for them. I have families in several neighborhoods willing to display the signs, Main Line Health has agreed to have them at their hospitals, and I will reach out to other healthcare organizations if I have additional signs to offer.
